There was literally lightning in the Northwestern sky 15 minutes prior to game time. Symbolism perhaps from the highest authority on Football? This much anticipated game was sold out in just 3 days. On Friday night October 1, 2010 in Westlake Village, a town of only 8,800; with a game televised live on Fox Sports, 6000 screaming fans filled the sold out Lions Stadium to watch the visiting Westlake Warriors play the Oaks Christian Lions in a rivalry that had yet to begin.

The Warriors are now 4-0 for the season, 3-0 in Marmonte League play and are on an 18-0 winning streak that began last season, a school record.

OCHS Game Q3 Drive

Warriors vs OCHS Game Q3 Drive

The Westlake Warriors grabbed for the brass ring and took the Marmonte League title from the Moorpark Musketeers en route to a perfect 10-0 regular season record. At home in front a capacity crowd of nearly 7,200 spectators the ‘underdog’ Warriors dominated from start to finish with an explosive offense that lit up field like the 4th of July. To make it even more impressive was that the Westlake Warriors did this to  a Moorpark defense that had only surrendered an average of roughly 7 points against all other Marmonte League competitors all season long. The night began with a wonderful Westlake Football tradition of recognition of all the Senior Warrior players and their families in front of the entire stadium at a ceremony prior to kickoff where each player presented their parents with a rose and a letter of appreciation for all their support. Thanks to Coach Jim Benkert and the entire coaching staff for their hard work and dedication to make this season something truly special. And it ain’t over yet!

The Westlake Warriors overcame adversity to win the game in their toughest test this season against a talented and energized Newbury Park Panther Team playing on their home field. The Warriors stay unbeaten, improve their record to 7-0 and stay in 1st place in the Marmonte Leaque. It was a great football game to watch between two of the best offensive squads in the Marmonte League.

In a game that bore no resemblance to close contests of previous years between these two teams, the Warriors began scoring early and often to run up the score 34-0 at the half. While the fans of the Warrior Nation have become accustomed to the explosive and mutipronged offense led by a dominating offensive line,  it was the Defensive squad that completely drained the Chargers of any hope to be in the game. Two interceptions by Team Captain & linebacker Adrian Muguerza (#21), one for a touchdown were instrumental in leading the Westlake Defense in taking apart the Agoura Offense. Kudos to the entire Defensive squad. Great defensive plays were made by but not limited to: Michael Tack (#6), Johnny Stuart (#82), Shane Giraldo (#47), Mason Thibo (#28), Justin Solis (#57), Dallas Clayton (#12)

The Tribe 2009 - a new beginning...

Many thanks to the Westlake Regiment marching band and the Westlake Cheerleading squad for their support in leading ‘The Tribe” to a new level of energy. There is definitely a noticeable “high energy buzz” at the games both home and away this season that can be attributed to a newly infused spirit coming from these and other sources.
