Spring training for the 2011 season has begun, but our thanks go out to the graduating Seniors who,  guided by Coach Benkert & his coaching staff led the Warriors to an unprecedented 26-2 record over the past two years. That is winning percentage of 93% that included two Marmonte League Titles, appearance in back to back CIF SS Championship games and a CIF SS Championship Title in 2009. Get your own copies of the 2010 teams : Varsity, JV & Freshman including this special edition Senior only poster shown below. Each poster features each player on the team or group.

By now, Justin Solis’ ability to strike fear in the minds of opposing offensive players by his physical size is no secret. But not everyone knows how his mental toughness is channeled from an unlikely source; across generational boundaries. You can read more about it in this NY Times article:

Scoring early and often, Senior Nick Isham, behind his seasoned but young offensive line and his Senior partners in “Score, Inc” – Tavior Mowry and Nelson Spruce  led the Warriors to an easy 58-8 game in which nearly every Warrior saw playing time. Other Warriors making notable offensive contributions include, but were not limited to: Treshon Wilson, Cody Tuttle, Jared Fry, Dashon Hunt, Justin Moore, Geoff Carr, Trevor Wood and Adam Augustyn.

The defensive squad was also stellar as usual, keeping the Knight Hawks stymied all night with mostly 3 downs and a punt. The only Knight score was set up by an offensive miscue deep in Warrior territory. The big D was led by Defensive Lineman Justin Solis and Johnny Stuart, Linebackers Max Winsberg and Jack Shepard. Significant contributions on the DEE-Fence were made by many Warriors throughout the game including Seniors Waz Dupris, Lukas Fancy, Jimmy Hopkins, Jamie Forster and Team Captain Adam Lazar

Many thanks to all the loyal Warrrior fans who braved the longest trip for a CIF playoff game in recent memory (at least 3 years from this writer’s memory).  Yes, we know some of you made the trip in a luxury recliner “Fan bus” to and from Palmdale for the playoff game on Friday vs. Knight High School, but once there the wind chill factor was enough to rate as the 2nd coldest playoff game in 2 years.

Thanks to all who worked hard to make it happen and those who came out to energize the Westlake Warrior Nation in anticipation of the 2010 Marmonte League opener against perennial cross town rival, the Thousand Oaks Lancers. Pep Rally began roughly at 5:45 pm (right after Varsity Football practice) on Tuesday, September 14th on the baseball field adjacent to Warrior Stadium. Wearing Blue and Orange Warrior Nation colors, attendance was estimated at 250. Way to ignite some “burning desire” deep in collective hearts & minds of the Warrior Nation !

The Wake for A.J. Castro on Thursday, Sept. 9th, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Pierce Brothers and his Funeral on Friday, Sept. 10th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, both in Westlake Village, and his subsequent  burial at Pierce Brothers Cemetery were widely attended by the local community at large – and some came from as far away as New York City.

The swell of support over the past two weeks were both appreciated and acknowledged by the Castro family at the Friday service. All cards, letters and donations to A.J.’s legacy can be sent to Hector Castro & Family c/o Westlake Football, Westlake High School, 100 Lakeview Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA 91362

The vigil: Hundreds attended a candlelight vigil to honor and remember Andrew J. Castro on Wednesday, September 1st at 9:00PM at the Westlake Warrior Stadium. Thank you to all friends, family, the Westlake High School Warriors Band of Brothers and all members of the Westlake and Conejo Valley communities that came out to show their support. The Castro family is appreciative to see everyone there showing their support to help them through this very difficult times.
